Why Should You Ask Questions at a Job Interview?

During some point in a job interview, usually near the end, your interviewers may ask you, "Do you have any questions?" Now is the time to pipe up and say something. Asking questions is important because it accomplishes several things.

In terms of your interviewers, asking the right questions helps alleviate any reservations HR may have about hiring you. It shows you engaged your interviewers and thought about what was happening during your face time. Inquiries should impress your interviewers.

Asking questions also lets you gauge whether the company is the right fit for you. Get a feel for what the interviewers said during the session. Did they seem positive when they answered your questions, or were they more reserved? Were people enthusiastic or subdued? How people answer your questions is just as important as you asking them in the first place.

One way to demonstrate interest in the employer is by coming up with thoughtful questions to pose. Did you create a question based on a question your future manager asked you? Did you wait to ask questions towards the end, or did your answers lead to a question right away?

You should prepare queries ahead of time, even if someone answers them before the end of the interview. Those questions can give you ideas that come up during your face time.

Asking questions makes you appear intelligent and the right person for the job. This aspect of your personality is one of many things HR tries to measure when your potential employer talks to you.
