Job/Project Description:
Amgen's Small Molecule Process and Product Development (SMP&PD) Chemical Process Research and Development department at our Thousand Oaks headquarters is looking for an undergraduate student interested in a 10 - 12 week internship to support the development of a promising small molecule drug candidate. As a intern with Amgen you will be involved in the design of a practical, efficient and sustainable route to a novel electrophilic heterocycle with critical application to the production of potential small molecule therapeutics. Additionally you will have the opportunity to learn about the myriad issues which impact the development of commercial manufacturing routes to therapeutic small molecules.

Basic Qualifications
Must be in the process of obtaining an Undergraduate degree in General, Biological or Pharmacological Chemistry, Biochemistry or Chemical Engineering.
Must have at least one semester of organic chemistry
Must have completed laboratory course work
Amgen requires that all individuals applying for an internship or a co-op assignment at Amgen must meet the following criteria:
• Must be 18 years or older;
• Must be currently enrolled at an accredited graduate college or university as a full time student
• Must have completed at least one full year of study at the time of application
;
• Must have not yet graduated;
• Must be pursuing an applicable degree or course of study;
• Must be in good academic standing within their majors and overall at their university;
• Must be enrolled in school the fall season following the potential internship or co-op assignment.
• Must not be employed at the time the internship starts

Preferred Qualifications
• The preferred candidate will have completed two semesters of organic chemistry and have some practical organic chemistry lab experience working in with a primary investigator
