Job/Project Description:
Amgen's Molecular Science department at our Thousand Oaks headquarters is looking for a undergrad student interested in a 10 - 12 week internship responsible for carrying out supervised research projects in the area of biomarker discovery and development for cancer biology under the direction of senior research personnel. The successful applicant will perform tissue culture work including maintaining cell lines and treating cell lines and human primary leukemia cells with compounds to determine sensitivity to drug. Further, the applicant will perform molecular biology assays including immunoblots, a variety of functional assays, flow cytometric assays, and molecular assays with cell lines and primary leukemia/lymphoma tumor samples to identify markers that correlate with sensitivity to targeted therapeutics. Additionally, the candidate will be expected to participate in lab meetings at which data will be presented and discussed. Preparation of data summary reports and data analysis is required. Basic computer skills and previous experience in a molecular biology laboratory are required.

Basic Qualifications
Must be in the process of earning a Bachelor degree in Biological Sciences, Pharmacology, Molecular Biology, or scientific discipline.
Computer skills required.
Amgen requires that all individuals applying for an internship or a co-op assignment at Amgen must meet the following criteria:
• Must be 18 years or older
• Must be currently enrolled at an accredited four-year college or university as a full time student
• Must have completed at least one full year of study at the time of application
• Must have not yet graduated
• Must be in good academic standing within their majors and overall at their university
• Must be enrolled in school the fall season following the potential internship or co-op assignment
• Must not be employed at the time the internship starts

Preferred Qualifications
• Experience in basic laboratory research setting
• Ability to work independently and to generate and analyze data and present analyzed data to a laboratory group
• Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to work with others in a collaborative environment
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
