The Department of Pediatrics in the School of Medicine is the second largest Department in the School. In addition to the large number of faculty and staff, the Department encompasses 16 academic division/sections determined by clinical subspecialty, such as pediatric cardiology, pediatric endocrinology, neonatology, general Pediatrics/primary care, adolescent medicine, etc.
TheHarborview Injury Prevention and Research Centerhas an outstanding opportunity for apart time 50%FTE Research Study Assistant. The indiviudual in this position will perform duties as an interviewer for a new study looking at the effects of concurrent parent and child injury on children's recovery after trauma. Job duties include contacting parents of children who have had an injury to consent them into the study and conducting baseline interviews in person and follow-up interviews over the phone. Position requires flexible scheduling to accommodate daytime and evening hours.
Responsibilities:
* Complete interviewer training and demonstrate a mastery of basic interviewing techniques
* Apply rules and standards from interviewer training in a consistent and reliable manner
* Effectively explain the purpose of the research and the study protocols to the participants
* Review and explain all research related forms and interview commitment to prospective participants
* Maintain very detailed and accurate records on paper and in the database
* Conduct regular data entry of subject information into subject database
* Maintain confidentiality of subject information
* Participate in weekly staff meetings
* Provide on-going feedback on survey administration and procedures and assist in problem-solving functions
* Coordinate mailing of subject packets
* Coordinate retrieval of school records
* Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of patient privacy rights. Maintains confidentiality of all medical, financial, or other sensitive materials and information in printed, electronic or verbal form, which may jeopardize the privacy of patients. Accesses and uses the minimum necessary patient identifiable information to perform job responsibilities and duties and only for authorized purposes.
Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of, and maintains confidentiality of employee information, Department of Pediatrics, Harborview Medical Center, and the University of Washington Medical Center strategic plans and initiatives, financial information or other sensitive materials and information in printed, electronic or verbal form, which may jeopardize employee rights or organization's operations. * Previous data collection or research interviewing experience required
* Excellent oral and written communication skills
* Knowledge of Microsoft Office, proficient word processing and data entry skills and high level of comfort with databases Desired:

This position will work with clinical research involving human subjects within UW Medicine and therefore clinical Research Study Coordinator (RSC) training is required. The training requirement for this position includes UW Medicine-specific as well as general training. The training will need to be completed within 90 days of hire.
