Description We are currently seeking an Occupational Health and Safety Specialist to provide guidance and ensure compliance for company, state, and federal safety and security policies and regulations for the INVISTA site in Wilmington, NC
Responsibilities/Position Summary: • Understand and adhere to INVISTA principles and compliance expectations, lead and assist site employees and contractors in understanding and adhering to these principles and compliance expectations. • Assume personal responsibility for INVISTA’s compliance expectations. • Actively participate in and complete all compliance training in a timely manner and demonstrate knowledge of the subject matter. • Identify and challenge potential non-compliant behavior. • Develop objectives which support the Site Safety Vision. • Responsible for development, implementation and continuous improvement of the site’s OSH compliance programs. • Responsible for incorporating all applicable laws and regulations, company performance standards into site OSH procedures that are clear, concise, complete and effective. • Develops, schedules and delivers effective OSH training. Ensure that the required training for each employee is documented, completed on time and includes continual quality improvements. • Provides facility personnel with timely technical support, guidance and resources to maintain compliance with applicable OSH laws, regulations, company performance standards and site procedures. • Promoting a strong safety culture which supports the site’s goal of an injury-free workplace where employees take responsibility for their safety as well as that of others. • Responsible for working with all levels of the organization in ensuring the site is able to obtain and maintain VPP NC STAR certification. • Serve as Compliance System Owner for Safe Work Practices Programs.
Education/Certification Required: • Associates Degree in Science or related field
Education/Certification Preferred. • Bachelor's Degree in Science or related field • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH)
Experience & Skills Required: • 3+ years safety, health experience in a manufacturing environment. • Demonstrated knowledge of governmental safety, including ANSI (American National Standards Institute), NFPA (National Fire Protection Association) and OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) • Demonstrated knowledge of manufacturing plant operations
Qualifying Candidate will have the following attributes: • Strong communication skills [oral and written] • Strong interpersonal skills – ability to lead teams – team members • Ability to handle multiple tasks, work independently and manage priorities • Strong computer skills
Physical Requirements: • Must be able to enter and move about in confined spaces and wear personnel protective equipment • Must be able to climb stairs in operating unit • Ability to work in extreme temperatures and weather conditions for various periods of time • Must be willing to work periodic work days in excess of 8 hours
