Human Resource Business Partner



In this diverse role you will act as a business partner to a Regional Director and other leaders, supporting about 2400 employees in Wisconsin and North Dakota. The staff and programs you will support provide people with innovative, quality services and care that lead to growth and independence. While you'll provide the full array of HR service, you can expect to invest the largest part of your time in employee relations, FMLA administration, workers compensation, employee retention and training. The MENTOR Network is focused on core growth -- we're currently a billion-dollar organization in 35 states -- and we are looking for impact players who can grow with us.
This is a true generalist role, and you'll handle all aspects of HR. At the same time, you'll spend a good deal of time in coaching managers on ER issues, responding to employee concerns and conducting investigations. As you would expect, you'll elevates issues to HR Managers and/or Directors and Legal as appropriate. Most ER issues will involve Direct Service Providers (DSPs), hourly staff who work with the people in our programs, and the largest group of employees. Some issues can be resolved over the phone while in other cases you'll meet with the parties at a group home or Area office.
Another area of focus will be administering FMLA and other leaves, as well as workers compensation. In addition you will assist the leaders in assessing training needs. This will include counseling leaders and employees about on-the-job and formal training opportunities to develop new skills and prepare for advancement.
Desired Skills & Experience
  • A four-year college degree in Human Resources, Business or other related field; PHR certification is preferred.
  • Three to five years of HR generalist experience, including experience with ER, FMLA and other leave administration, and workers compensation. Training experience is strongly preferred.
  • A background in healthcare and/or human services can be helpful but is not required.
  • Professional maturity, managerial courage and the ability to work effectively with strong personalities.
  • Self-motivation, a high-energy approach and a sense of urgency.
  • Solid integrity and the ability to engender trust.
  • A strong sense of ethics and values.
  • A customer focus.

You also will need to be willing to spend an average of two days a week in the field visiting Area offices and sometimes group homes. This will include some overnight travel. In general you will plan your travel ahead, but occasionally you'll need to drive to a location on short notice, such as to handle an ER issue.
