Summary
The HR Generalist position performs a variety of human resource functions including recruitment, orientations, job descriptions, performance evaluations, leaves of absence, administers company EEO and Affirmative Action Programs and supervisor/manager EEO training. Administers workers compensation, policies and procedures, record and jobsite posting compliance, while maintaining an atmosphere of cooperation, consideration and respect in the workplace.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
· Coordinates non-union hiring and promotions, including position job descriptions, advertising, screening, interviewing, reference and background checks and selection. Coordinates with appropriate management personnel and search firms. Maintains application files in accordance with company policy.
· Orientates new hires on company policies, procedures, benefits and safety.
· Reviews and documents non-union terminations, participates as needed, conducts exit interviews as appropriate.
· Monitors union hiring and terminations, including providing counsel to supervisors, collecting/completing personnel file records, and involving corporate counsel as appropriate.
· Coordinates annual performance reviews and ensures they are completed in a timely manner.
· Ensures EEO compliance on all projects in accordance with the companies Affirmative Action Policy. Reviews Employment Utilization reports monthly to determine if affirmative action goals are met. Takes corrective action when necessary.
· Participates in investigation/resolution of all EEO complaints.
· Acts as resource to supervisors and employees on benefit or employment related questions.
· Investigates union grievances and responds to appropriate union.
· Provides general administrative support to management as requested, including written communications, file management, etc.
· Responds to human resource information requests from parent company.
· Maintains internal and external customer relations.
· Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending in-house training and development programs, educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional societies.
Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Knowledge of human resources practices applicable to the construction industry, including employee and labor relations, performance, benefits administration, compensation, recruitment, state and federal employment laws.
Strong knowledge of EEO, Affirmative Action, and Workers Compensation is required.
Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and Internet a must.
Knowledge of safety practices applicable to the construction industry preferred.
Familiarity with OSHA, WISHA, and MSHA safety regulations preferred.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Basic math skills, 10-key by touch.
Professional ethics, tact, and courtesy in dealing with management, team members, vendors and internal and external customers.
Education
High school diploma, or equivalent, preferred.
PHR or SPHR certification preferred.
Experience
Three to four years experience in a similar position preferred.
