Grad Intern - Global Strategic Sourcing
Amgen's Global Strategic Sourcing (GSS) department in our Thousand Oaks location is looking for a Grad student interested in a 10 - 12 week internship. Candidates interested in continuing his/her professional development and becoming a key contributor at Amgen. Responsibilities will include benchmarking, market research, spend analytics and key strategic recommendations for better sourcing and supplier management processes.
Internship Opportunities will be within GSS supporting the following functional areas: • GSS Operations • GSS Research and Development • GSS General and Administrative • GSS Global Commercial Operations • GSS Center of Excellence disposition of ALC. The work is novel, non-proprietary and should provide the foundation for at least one peer reviewed manuscript over the course of the summer intern. Interns will also need to participate in various Amgen summer internship program activities (e.g., presentations, poster sessions, networking events, etc.).
The goals of GSS are: • STRATEGIC PARTNERS - Leadership role as trusted advisors to influence Amgen strategies, leverage emerging trends and identify opportunity areas that deliver sustainable value. • BUSINESS TRANSFORMATION - Integral key contributor applying market knowledge to drive internal and external innovative opportunities to enhance Amgen's competitiveness. • GLOBAL SOURCING OWNERSHIP - Drive world class sourcing strategies to deliver assurance of supply, ensure quality and service, optimize cost, leverage innovation and meet regulatory requirements. • EXECUTION - Operational Excellence, compliance and continuous improvement, in everything we do. • STRATEGIC SUPPLIER RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT - Own Supplier, Supply and Specification Management program to realize value from sourcing and continuous improvement aligned with Enterprise Risk Management. • PEOPLE - Foster dynamic learning environment that recognizes people with broad contribution as highly skilled and fungible resources.

Basic Qualifications Prospective candidates must be in the process of completing the first year of their Master of Business Administration (MBA). Candidates must have obtained a Bachelor's Degree.
Amgen requires that all individuals applying for an internship or a co-op assignment at Amgen must meet the following criteria: • Must be 18 years or older • Must be a current full time student • Must have completed at least one full year of study • Must have not yet graduated • Must be in good academic standing within their majors and overall at their university • Must be enrolled in school the fall season following the potential internship or co-op assignment • Must not be employed at the time the internship starts
Preferred Qualifications 1. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills 2. Strong oral and written communication skills, excellent interpersonal skills, and the ability to interact well with all levels of management 3. Strong leadership ability and a team player 4. Three or more years of experience in performing sophisticated financial modeling 5. Biotechnology, pharmaceutical, or health care industry experience is a plus, but is not required
