1. Learn the business: It's essential that the Kalamazoo Operations HR Leader become familiar with all phases of the business during the first (90) days. This includes an understanding of products, competitors, customers, industry, business strategy, company financial performance, and key missions, culture and values.
2. Human Resources Leadership: As part of this critical role, the person in this position needs to provide on-going advice and insight on the following: department organization, staffing needs, performance issues, compensation strategy, performance reviews, bonus awards, employee satisfaction, and turnover issues. To be successful from the very beginning, meet with all Kalamazoo Campus Operations leaders in order to understand their critical and on-going HR support needs and develop the appropriate methods to communicate and meet their requirements. Using that knowledge, assist the Kalamazoo Campus leadership build a culture all their own.
3. People Development: Responsibility for the Kalamazoo Campus Operations for coordinating and leading the annual evaluation of performance for all personnel and talent reviews for teams throughout the year. Use the performance and talent review process as opportunity to work closely with various Operations leaders to help them understand their existing teams, but to also use this time to determine future career pathing, succession planning and growth strategies for their reports.
4. Partnership: Partner across local Kalamazoo divisions. Become a trusted partner to divisional leaders by taking an active interest in their business in order to ensure appropriate support of their businesses. Partner with various other HR groups such as the Staffing and Organizational Development teams, the shared service Benefits team, and the shared Compensation group. Collaborate with the other site HR leaders to ensure the alignment of policies, procedures and processes. In addition, partner with the Kalamazoo Campus Operations leadership team on appropriate strategic business decisions from a human resources perspective. Become viewed as a trusted HR partner by not only leadership, but also all employees of two manufacturing sites.
5. Assess, build and develop the team: Use previous management background to lead an established and enthusiastic team of experienced professionals, as well as new, talented individuals. Responsible and accountable for the actions of promoting an environment that fosters personal growth, engagement, teamwork, empowerment, and development for Kalamazoo Operations human resources team.
6. Change Management: Use your background in the consolidation of multi-site operations in order to assist the Kalamazoo Operations group move from a decentralized model to one of shared services and centers of expertise. Understand that during this transition period, this role will not only be very strategic, but will also require a large tactical component that will need to be met.
Qualifications/Work Experience
• Excellent written and verbal interpersonal communication skills • Excellent analytical skills • Excellent organizational skills • Intermediate PC and appropriate software skills • 8-10 years of Human Resources experience • Operations or manufacturing experience and comprehension • Strategic HR business partnership with executive leadership team • Talent Management comprehension • Fundamental working knowledge of FMLA, ADA and other Employee benefits • Fundamental comprehension and execution of recruiting, interviewing, and selecting employees • Fundamental knowledge of employee laws
Education and/or Special Training
• PHR, SPHR certification • B.A of Human Resources or Business or related curriculum
