Director, Compensation & Benefits

Reporting to the Vice-President of Human Resources Temporary contract - 12 to 15 months - maternity leave replacement
Directs the development, implementation and coordination of the organization’s compensation, benefits, HRIS systems and health and safety programs and policies. Provides leadership in participating in the establishment of short and long-term departmental objectives and manages a team of HR professionals.
Identifies opportunities to increase program effectiveness and business success through the optimization of program design and roll-out strategies
Plans, develops and deploys compensation and benefits related policies, procedures and guidelines such as, but not limited to, base and incentive pay programs, merit and related increases, job evaluation, performance appraisal management, salary management, benefits and disability programs, etc.
Ensures that the organization is in compliance with legal requirements as it pertains to the scope of this role such as being in conformity with the CSST/WSIB boards
Offers proactive and efficient health and wellness training programs/campaigns and a support structure
Establishes and promotes the maintenance of safe working conditions, by establishing direction to reduce work related accidents and minimize financial liability through the design of initiatives such as rehabilitation, early back to work, reduced work weeks, modified work, re-assignment programs, etc.
Directs ongoing assessments related to all program portfolios to ensure effectiveness of existing programs and practices
Ensures optimization of PeopleSoft applications to increase operational efficiencies
Provides leadership, support, counsel and development of staff members
Is versed at liaising with consultants and governmental institutions in the areas of compensation, benefits, actuaries, legal and/or medical representation in the area of health and safety
Remains abreast and informs senior executives of trends within the compensation and benefits field.
