Borden Ladner Gervais LLP is seeking a Business Development professional in the role of Business Development Practice Group Leader. This position will be based in the Toronto office and will report to the National Chief Marketing Officer. POSITION OVERVIEW : Translates assigned BLG National Practice Groups or Focus Groups business strategies into actionable and on-brand marketing/Business Development strategies and tactics. Communicates developed strategies and tactics effectively, efficiently, and consistently, both internally and externally. Gathers and analyzes market and client data to drive insights and actions. On-going scan and research of market, and request more information on competitive intelligence. Defines and drives National Practice Group(s) or Focus Group(s) market positioning, value proposition, and go-to-market strategy. Responsible for the overall quality and timeliness of the work and services performed in the Commercial Litigation and Insurance & Tort Liability practice groups. Ad hoc initiatives as assigned. KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE: Degree in Business/Marketing/Communications 7+ years experience of which at least 3 years has been in the legal environment Demonstrated ability to work in a matrixed management environment SKILLS & COMPETENCIES REQUIRED: Business acumen, management, leadership, communications, strategic thinker, teamwork, results orientation, market knowledge, strong client focus. Effective communicator with ability to influence senior management. Experience and demonstrated performance in the management of personnel. Enhanced writing skills. Complete proficiency in MSOffice computer software. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: Works with the assigned National Practice Group(s) or Focus Group(s) to ensure strategies are consistent and value-added to the BLG brand. Develops detailed Business Development strategies for the assigned Practice Group(s) including position, messaging, programs, and go-to-market initiatives. Defines and produces compelling content and collateral. Compiles, manages, and ensures the distribution of up to date Practice Group knowledge and associated initiatives throughout BLG. Complies and distributes competitive insights and analysis. Provides oversight and management of the Business Development Regional Leader (â?oeBDRL). Provides assistance to the BDRL in the development of the Business Development Regional strategic plan. Is a coach/mentor to the BDRL. Stays current with industry trends and standards. Ensures consistency and priority of umbrella BLG Firm strategy and brand in practice group plans.
