OVERVIEW:
The Human Resources Generalist is a critical member to Blue Castle’s HR Team. You are someone who has passion and a genuine interest in Human Resources and in fostering a positive, creative and collaborative work environment.
Reporting to the HR Director, you are professional and approachable with the ability to multi-task with intricate detail. You also have superior relationship building skills, and the ability to go the extra mile in a fast paced, ever-changing HR and Recruiting environment.
COMPANY PROFILE:Blue Castle Games () is a privately owned full-service, multi-project, multi-platform 3rd party video game developer located in Burnaby. The studio formed in 2005 with eleven people, fulfilling the desire to start a company where creativity, experience and hard work come together to create outstanding games. We are a now a 160 person studio that has doubled in size over the past two years. In its short tenure, Blue Castle has developed and shipped The BIGS (published by 2K Sports in June 2007) on PS3, 360, PS2, PSP and Wii, MLB Front Office Manager (published by 2K Sports in January 2009) on PS3, 360 and PC and in July 2009 The BIGS 2, published by 2K Sports on five platforms - PS3, 360, PS2, PSP and Wii. Currently in development is the AAA project, Dead Rising 2, which will be published by Capcom in September 2010 and an unannounced project.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Owning company benefits programs including employee communications and training, and administering employee benefits. * Coordinating annual performance review process and compensation administration including participation in external industry salary surveys such as Croner & Watson Wyatt. * Performing new hire orientations and exit interviews; on-boarding including immigration and relocation facilitation. * Meeting with employees and managers to educate, discuss issues, resolve conflicts, problem solve and provide support and assistance concerning matters of the workplace. * Developing/Maintaining policies and procedures and ensuring HR/legal compliance. * Overseeing Health and Safety Committee and ensuring compliance & training * Tracking and maintaining employee time off records. * Working with the HR and Recruiting teams in the development and coordination of special projects which may include policies and practices, presentations on HR programs, RRSP program development, vacation policy management, competitive analysis, job families project, career fair preparation and participation, coop programs (including NSERC), ad-hoc training sessions, and company events, ultimately ensuring Blue Castle is an employer of choice. * Supporting the recruiting team when necessary including setting up interviews, facilitating international travel, on-line job postings, ad-hoc prescreening and reference checking, tracking applicants through the recruitment process, hosting interviews and assisting in the creation and maintenance of job descriptions.
REQUIREMENTS:
* 4+ years in a Human Resources role supporting a mid-size employee base of 100-150 at a high tech, software or creative development company. * A degree or diploma in Human Resources Management or relevant discipline combined with experience. * Expert knowledge and understanding of employment legislation, including the BC Employment Standards and Human Rights Legislation. * Expert knowledge in Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel (pivot tables/reporting) and the ability to grasp new technologies quickly; HRIS & applicant tracking system experience beneficial. * Ability to think “outside the box” to create and explore new opportunities. * Detailed oriented, with excellent communication, organizational, administrative and customer service skills. * Demonstrated ability to deal effectively with employees at all levels. Able to build rapport and maintain high level of confidence, trust and integrity within the organization. * Demonstrated passion and genuine interest in the Human Resources in a creative gaming environment. * Ability to plan projects, research methods, gain organizational buy-in and implement solutions. Flexible and collaborative in contributing to broader Human Resources team. * Demonstrated ability to exercise discretion and diplomacy dealing with confidential and sensitive matters. * A good sense of humour, empathetic personality and “Can-do” attitude.
